This rustic antique Indian teak wood Surti chest was crafted in the 19th century from thick teak wood and reinforced with iron and brass binding for extra strength. Retaining its original painted finish, this chest reflects the rich history and craftsmanship of Gujarat State during the Victorian era.
Originally custom-made by the head of a family to store valuables such as jewellery, textiles, dowry, and cash, this chest was designed for security with strong padlocks. Today, it serves as a versatile piece of furniture, perfect as a coffee table or storage box for magazines, books, or household items. Its compact size also makes it ideal as a hall storage bench.
This one-of-a-kind piece showcases a lovely patina that highlights its age and history. As with any antique furniture, there are some minor historic repairs and age-related marks that add to its charm.
