Our mirrors are made from repurposed and salvaged old teak wood Indian Jali Doors. They are mostly carved and with traces of the original paint which gives them so much character. The reclaimed teak wood architectural fittings comes from old buildings that are too dilapidated to repair, in Rajasthan, Gujarat State and Northern India and through repurposing are saved for future generations! They are all nineteenth (or earlier) century originals. This mirror has been made from Indian Jali Doors (Lakdi Ki Khidki in Hindi), that were primarily to allow ventilation and natural light into indoor spaces. They were essential for maintaining air circulation and creating a comfortable environment within buildings during very hot Indian weather. Often, when glass was too expensive to use, the shutter doors would have acted as a line of security for entry too. Each comes with sturdy iron hanging hooks on the rear, and are ready to hang. They can be safely used indoors anywhere in the home or outdoors in patio or decking areas and add a bit of old India glamour to any space. Sometimes with some minor restoration required to ensure they reach you in original but fully functional solid condition, as an old piece there are some historic repairs and age related marks and wear and tear as you would expect. Please be sure to check all photos as these form part of the description. Dimensions: Width 43cm x Depth 5cm x Height 173cm.
