Description
This is a lovely traditional Indian Pinjara cabinet or dresser made from reclaimed teak wood, and antique Jali Doors in the style of a 1920’s cabinet, with distressed paint finish using old timbers, and often used in the kitchen or other areas of the Indian home for storing things that need proper ventilation like meats, cheese or vegetables, prior to the advent of fridges and electricity being available. This fabulous cabinet is used today to store wine, or as a general pantry unit in a kitchen. It blends beautifully with older and more contemporary designed kitchens. . Made from repurposed and salvaged old teak wood Indian Jali Doors at the front. They are mostly carved and with traces of the original paint which gives them so much character. The reclaimed teak wood architectural fittings comes from old buildings that are too dilapidated to repair, in Rajasthan, Gujarat State and Northern India and through repurposing are saved for future generations! They are all nineteenth (or earlier) century originals. This Pinjara Cabinet has mostly been made from Indian Jali Doors (Lakdi Ki Khidki in Hindi), that were primarily to allow ventilation and natural light into indoor spaces. They were essential for maintaining air circulation and creating a comfortable environment within buildings during very hot Indian weather. Often, when glass was too expensive to use, the shutter doors would have acted as a line of security for entry too. Sometimes with some minor restoration required to ensure they reach you in original but fully functional solid condition, as an old piece there are some historic repairs and age related marks and wear and tear as you would expect. Please be sure to check all photos as these form part of the description. Dimensions: Length 107 x Width 49 x Height 180cm
