This Antique Turquoise & Ochre Painted Teak Wood Pair of Doors, dating from the 1880s, is a rare survivor of India’s architectural heritage. Salvaged from a grand building in Gujarat State, these nineteenth-century originals feature layers of beautifully distressed turquoise, ochre, and cream paint, with areas of exposed natural teak and aged iron hardware. The doors display intricate hand-carved motifs and a fabulous patina built up over more than a century.
Originally used as a second line of defence behind Jali doors in prominent homes, these doors are both decorative and robust. Today, they are ideal for use as a dramatic feature wall, a grand garden or patio entrance, or as distinctive interior shutters. Their authentic wear, historic repairs, and traces of old paint tell a story of generations past.
