Bring a piece of Indian history into your home with this exceptional antique Surti coffee table chest, crafted from thick quarter teak wood and finished in a beautifully distressed turquoise blue. Dating from around 1860, this chest was originally custom-made in Gujarat State, India, and features robust iron and brass fittings for strength and security. The original turquoise blue paint, now gently worn, gives it a unique “shabby chic” patina that celebrates its Victorian-era origins.
Traditionally used to store family valuables such as textiles, jewellery, and dowries, this chest is both a practical storage solution and a stunning centrepiece. Its generous proportions make it perfect as a coffee table, blanket box, or hallway storage bench. The chest is complete with its original iron hardware and a rustic wooden lock, and has been personally sourced by a member of Jardinopia in Rajasthan, India.
