Antique Indian Teak Wood Pitara Dowry Chest

A fine and well proportioned antique teak wood Pitara or Dowry Chest. With lovely original brass inlay & fine brass fittings, this late nineteenth century example is in great original condition. Originating from southern India, this would have been used to securley store cash, coins, jewels, silks, silver and manuscripts. Today they are used throughout the home as coffee tables and small storage units. As with all antiques, there are minor blemishes and bumps, with signs of minor sensitive early restoration, as you would expect with an object of this age.
