The iconic Indian grinder table is known colloquially as a Chakki (or Chaki) Table in Hindi, which is a repurposed teak rice grinding mill from villages in Rajasthan or Gujarat. Originally used with quern stones for grinding wheat or other grains, these tables acted as the base for the stones, raising them from the ground, and there is normally a small door at the side for the flour to come out. These tables are now usefully repurposed as small and portable coffee tables, or for holding indoor plants (as we have added a solid heavweight iron insert to ours to make them waterproof and able to hold potted plants). They can be used anywhere in the home. This Chakki table is a fine original 19th century one, and beautifully chip carved around the edge. Do beware of numerous inferior quality mango wood reproductions flooding the market. This is a unique natural teak Victorian piece which was made by hand many years ago and has stunning hand carved detailing, and a lovely patina which really shows its age and history. All of our Chakki Tables are original antiques, sometimes with some minor restoration required to ensure they reach you in original but fully functional solid condition. As an old piece and there are some historic repairs and age related marks and wear and tear as you would expect. Please be sure to check all photos as these form part of the description. Dimensions: Width 72cm x Depth 72cm x Height 26cm.
