Antique Indian cast iron kitchen measuring pot dating from c1900, in fine condition and with lovely patina. In Hindi these were called naap-batta lohe ke bartan, meaning lierally ‘measuring utensil’. Cast iron pots with measurements in India were versatile and essential cooking utensils, and the measurement markings on the pots helped ensure accurate ingredient proportions, which was especially important for recipes that required precise measurements. These pots were a valuable asset in kitchens, ensuring that recipes were followed accurately and that the resulting meals were flavorful and well-prepared. They provide a glimpse into the methods and tools that were used for cooking in the past. Today they are used as planters.
